October 31 – November 3, 2017 the delegation of ISKRAN headed by the Scientific Director of the Institute, academician Rogov SM. visited the city of Washington (USA) on a scientific visit. During the trip, ISKRAN staff participated in numerous seminars and conferences organized jointly with American scientific centers.

Scientific Seminar ‘Russian-American Dialogue on Strategic Stability’ at the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.

The seminar, chaired by Linton Brooks, Senior Advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Honorary Scientist at the US National Defense University, was devoted to the Russian-American dialogue on strategic stability issues. On the part of the NAS, Senior Program Officer of the Policy and International Relations Division Rita Gunther, Director of the International Security and Arms Control Committee Mike Lowenthal, Stephen Fetter, former Assistant Director of the White House Science and Technology Policy Department, Robert Latiff, Major-General The Air Force retired, James Timby, a former senior adviser to the US Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.

Scientific seminar ‘Conservation of the INF Treaty and Prospects for the Extension of START III’.

The seminar on strategic stability issues was organized jointly with the Committee on deep reductions of the Arms Control Association, where issues of strategic stability, the preservation of the INF Treaty, prospects for the extension of START III were discussed. The meeting was attended by Russia’s ambassador to the US A. Antonov, senior adviser to the military-political department of the Russian embassy in the US K. Serednyakov, chairman of the board of directors of the Association Thomas Kantrimen, its executive director Daryl Kimball, director for disarmament and policy to reduce the nuclear threat, Kingston Reef, member of the board of directors Greg Thilmann, research fellow Alishia Sanders-Zakre, director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists Hans Christensen, senior researcher at the RAND Corporation Samuel Charap and other eq sperty.

International conference ‘Development of Russian-American cooperation in the field of security in difficult times’.

The conference was organized jointly with the Center for International Security Studies at the University of Maryland. During the meeting, issues of opportunities for improving Russian-American relations, as well as pressing issues of international security, the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the problem of cyberspace were discussed. Scientific seminar “Issues of Russian-American nuclear deterrence”, organized jointly with the Brookings Institution.

In addition to the ISCRAN delegation, Stroub Talbot, President of the Institute, Steven Pifer, Senior Fellow, Robert Einhorn, Director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists Hans Christensen participated in the seminar. The presentation and discussion of the report of R. Einhorn and S. Pifer “Ensuring American Deterrence” took place at the seminar.
