On November 13, 2019, the Scientific Supervisor of ISCRAN, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences S.M. Rogov, made a presentation on the New Cold War: Implications for Russian Society at the Scientific Session of the General Meeting of RAS Members ‘Fundamental Problems of the Development of Modern Russian Society’.

Actual competitions of the Russian Science Foundation. Application deadline is December 20, 2019.

The Russian Science Foundation holds competitions:
1) “Conducting basic research and exploratory research on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation” (interdisciplinary projects)
Within the framework of an interdisciplinary project, scientific groups should carry out research in various fields of knowledge on the basis of two or three different Russian scientific organizations, Russian educational institutions of higher education, other Russian organizations, the constituent documents of which provide for the possibility of performing scientific research located on the territory of the Russian Federation international (interstate and intergovernmental) scientific organizations (hereinafter – the organizations) that are in compliance but in two or three non-adjacent to each other regions of the Russian Federation.
The project manager must have at least ten different publications on the subject of the project in peer-reviewed Russian and foreign scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus databases published from January 1, 2015 years before the filing date.
The grant for the implementation of one interdisciplinary project is from 8 (Eight) to 15 (Fifteen) million rubles annually, while the amount of funding for each project can be from 4 (Four) to 6 (Six) million rubles per year (2020 – 2023) .
2) “Conducting basic research and exploratory research on behalf of (instructions) of the President of the Russian Federation” (leading scientists)
A mandatory requirement for the project is the annual participation in its implementation of at least two leading scientists who are required to make short-term (at least 1 month) visits to the organization to give lectures and participate (and / or organization) in seminars, schools of young researchers on the subject of the project, as well as for conducting research on the project.
The project manager must have at least ten different publications on the subject of the project in peer-reviewed Russian and foreign scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus databases published from January 1, 2015 years before the filing date.
The size of one grant is from 5 (Five) to 8 (Eight) million rubles annually (2020 – 2022).

The Council of Young Scientists of ISCRAN together with the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a scientific seminar with the report ‘Modern Mexico: Features of Domestic and Foreign Policy’

On November 14, 2019, the Council of Young Scientists of ISCRAN together with the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a scientific seminar. Ph.D. A.A. Manukhin (senior researcher with ISKRAN, ILA RAS) and candidate of political sciences E.Yu. Kosevich (NS HSE) made a presentation ‘Modern Mexico: Features of Domestic and Foreign Policy’. Following their presentation, a discussion took place during which workshop participants discussed the first results of the government of Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador, as well as the changing role of Mexico in international economic and political unions.

On November 8-9, 2019, the 16th annual international scientific conference ‘Russia and Canada: Opportunities for Cooperation’ was held at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences

On November 8-9, 2019, the 16th annual international scientific conference ‘Russia and Canada: opportunities for cooperation’ was held at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The conference discussed topical issues of Canadian science: from politics and economics to culture and science. Particular attention was paid to Arctic issues, and opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Canada in the Arctic dimension were actively discussed.
For the second year in a row, a meeting of the Young Canadian Studies section is held, where graduate students are given the opportunity to make a presentation on their chosen topic.
Following the conference, a collection of materials will be printed, which will become a source of relevant information about Canada and Russian-Canadian relations.

October 31, 2019 ISKRAN Council of Young Scientists Holds a U.S. 2019 Roundtable

On October 31, 2019, the ISKRAN Council of Young Scientists held a meeting of the ‘USA in 2019’ round table, which highlighted relevant aspects of US foreign and domestic policy in 2019.
The round table was attended by young scientists and graduate students from the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences EAT. Primakov, Institute of Latin America RAS, Institute of Europe RAS, Institute of Oriental Studies RAS, Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Research University Higher School of Economics, Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Among the reports on foreign policy topics, the reports of NS N.V. Stepanova (ISCRAN) and M.S. AND ABOUT. Mishina (IMEMO RAS). The first was devoted to the crisis of Russian-American relations in the field of arms control and strategic stability. The second is to the prospects for US-China rivalry in the South China Sea. An assessment of the foreign policy of the Trump administration in the Latin American direction was presented in a report p. n from. A.A. Manukhina (ISCRAN, ILA RAS).
The participants in the round table did not ignore the problem of the influence of the immigration factor on US domestic and foreign policy. Within the framework of this topic, reports were made by NS A.A. Filippenko (ISCRAN) and NS E.Yu. Kosevich (HSE).
Upon completion of the Round Table, its participants noted the productivity of the work in the format of a round table and decided to conduct scientific events under the auspices of the Council of Young Scientists of ISCRAN on a regular basis.
