Stepanova, Researcher, Department of Military-Political Studies, Ph.D. Anichkina T.B. under the supervision of ISCRAN, scientific leader, head of the international security section of the scientific council under the Security Council of the Russian Federation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Rogova S.M. took part in 4 international seminars and meetings in Washington (USA), devoted to the problems and prospects of Russian-American relations, issues of strategic stability and the prevention of dangerous incidents, the prospects for maintaining the INF Treaty and extending the START-3 Treaty.

On the American side, the events were attended by major experts on arms control and international security issues, including former US Presidential Administration and US Department of State officials, as well as US Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control Anita Friedt.

On November 13, 2018, a joint seminar of the Center for International Studies and Security Studies at the University of Maryland (CISSM) and ISCRAN, “Current and emerging challenges to strategic stability and Russian-American relations,” was held. From the American side, reports were made by Congressional Research Fellow Amy Wolfe, former Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, B. Obama Administration Steve Fetter, CISSM Research Fellow Jaganat Sankaran, CISSM Senior Fellow, former Director of the UN Institute for Disarmament Research Teresa Hitchens, CISSM Senior Researcher Charles Harry and CISSM Director Nancy Gallager.

CISSM Workshop – ISCRAN:

On November 14, members of the ISCRAN delegation met with Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, as well as members of Congressional staff to discuss prospects for a Russian-American nuclear arms control regime. Within the framework of the meetings, they discussed the prospects for the development of Russian-American relations, in particular, the results of midterm elections in the United States and their possible impact on bilateral relations, raised issues of strategic stability and factors that have a decisive influence on it at present.

On November 15, a joint seminar of ISCRAN and the Nuclear Threat Initiative Initiative (NTI) Fund was held on the topic of Nuclear Weapons in the Information Age. On November 18, 2018, ISKRAN employees took part in a working dinner with the participation of the Russian ambassador to the United States A.I. Antonova.
